Brief History of Science Education in Nepal
The program in basic science was introduced in Nepal with the establishment of Tri-Chandra College back in 1918 A.D. Intermediate of Science was initiated in this college in 1919 AD under affiliation with Calcutta University and later with Patana University of India. In 1947, the college introduced the Bachelor's level programs in Science for the first time in history of Nepal. Master's level program in Mathematics was however, started a bit earlier in 1959. Later various disciplines of the science were added to the existing programs of core basic sciences such as Chemistry, Physics, Botany, Zoology and Statistics and as applied Sciences such as Geology, Microbiology, Environmental Sciences, Food Technology, Computer Science and Information Technology & Biotechnology. Efforts to introduce new disciplines in Science and Technology are still continued for the advancement of Science and Technology.
