Located in Lainchour, Kathmandu, NIST Higher Education is a constituent entity of the NIST Foundation. Three colleges — National College (NC), National Model College for Advanced Learning (NMCAL), and National College of Food Science and Technology (NCFST), established in 1998 and 2007, respectively, currently offer various undergraduate and graduate courses with the aim of developing a deemed university focusing on medicine, science and technology, management, humanities (IT), and agriculture. NIST Higher Education has three colleges under it:

  1. National College - BCA, BBM, MBS, BSc/MSc Microbiology. MSc Biotechnology
  2. National College of Food Science & Technology (NCFST) - BTech Food
  3. National Model College of Advanced Learning (NMCAL) - B Pharmacy

Scientific Tools

The labs are equipped with a Tablet hardness tester (Monsanto), PCR, Double-beam UV Visible Spectrophotometer, High-Speed Refrigerated Centrifuge, Autoclave, Freezer (-20°C), pH meter, Micropipettes, Incubators, Laminar flow, Electronic Balance, Microscopes, Heating Block, Centrifuges, Hot plates with stirrers, Dissolution test apparatus, Disintegration test apparatus, 10-station compression machine, Double cone blender, Water Bath Shakers, and more. Additionally, the college has an air-conditioned tissue culture laboratory, library, seminar room, and a computer laboratory with internet access.

Seminar

All students are required to attend and actively participate in seminars organized by the college. Each year, every student must present at least four research papers assigned to them, with critical assessments. Skills and the quality of the presentations will be evaluated.

Admission Guidelines

General Admission Process (All Programs)

  • Step 1: Check Eligibility — Review program-specific requirements before applying
  • Step 2: Entrance Exam — Appear in the relevant TU entrance examination
  • Step 3: Documents & Interview — Submit required documents and attend interview if applicable
  • Step 4: Admission & Fees — Complete enrollment and join orientation at NIST

BBS / BBM / MBS
Eligibility

  • 10+2 or equivalent in any stream. Minimum D+ grade (CGPA 1.80+). CMAT is required for BBM.
  • Entrance Exam CMAT for BBM (FOM-TU). Merit basis for BBS & MBS.
  • CMAT Format 100 objective questions (25 each): Verbal ability, Quantitative ability, Logical reasoning, General awareness
  • Required Documents SLC/SEE certificate & transcript, 10+2 certificate & transcript, Citizenship/Passport, PP-size photos, Character certificate

BCA
Eligibility

  • 10+2 or equivalent from TU-recognized institution. Any stream accepted.
  • Entrance Exam Entrance exam conducted by FOHSS, TU
  • Required Documents SLC/SEE certificate & transcript, 10+2 certificate & transcript, Citizenship/Passport, PP-size photos

B.Pharmacy
Eligibility

  • Passed I.Sc. or 10+2 (Biology Group) with minimum 50% marks. Age below 25 years.
  • Entrance Exam IOM, TU entrance examination
  • Required Documents SLC/SEE certificate, I.Sc./10+2 transcript (Biology), Citizenship/Passport, Medical fitness certificate, PP-size photos, Character certificate

B.Tech Food
Eligibility

  • Passed second division I.Sc. or 10+2 (Science) from TU-recognized institution
  • Entrance Exam IOST, TU entrance examination
  • Required Documents SLC/SEE certificate, I.Sc./10+2 (Science) transcript, Citizenship/Passport, Character certificate,PP-size photos

BSc Microbiology
Eligibility

  • I.Sc./10+2 (Science) with good second division
  • Entrance Exam IOST, TU entrance examination

MSc Microbiology
Eligibility 

  • BSc in Microbiology from Tribhuvan University or equivalent. Must pass TU CDM entrance exam.
  • Merit Basis 80% entrance exam marks + 20% undergraduate marks. 80% free competition + 20% reserved(inclusivity)

MSc Biotechnology
Eligibility 

  • BSc in Science (relevant field). TU entrance examination required.
  • Seats 24 seats

MBS
Eligibility

  • Bachelor's degree (any stream) with complete application and past academic records

Objectives of NIST
