MECEE-BL 2026

The Medical Education Common Entrance Examination for Bachelor Level Programs (MECEE-BL) is the national entrance examination conducted in Nepal for students seeking admission to undergraduate health professional programs, including MBBS, BDS, BSc Nursing, BSc Midwifery, BASLP, B.Perfusion Technology, BAMS, BNS, BSc MLT, BSc MIT, BSc Radiotherapy Technology, B.Pharm, B.Optometry, BPT, and BPH.

As envisioned by the National Medical Education Act, 2075, the Medical Education Commission (MEC) conducts a common entrance examination for admission to health professional programs offered by universities, academies, and affiliated colleges across Nepal. To ensure a standardized and transparent admission process, MEC developed a common entrance syllabus in consultation with academic experts from various institutions experienced in conducting bachelor-level entrance examinations.

The MECEE-BL is conducted by the Medical Education Commission for both Nepali and international applicants seeking admission to bachelor-level medical and health professional education programs in Nepal.

The examination is divided into four clusters, with candidates appearing for the examination according to the academic programs they intend to pursue. All programs within the same cluster receive the same question paper, while separate merit lists are published for each cluster. Candidates can participate in the matching process only for the programs available within their respective cluster.

The four examination clusters are:

Cluster I

  • MBBS
  • BDS
  • BSc Nursing/BSc Midwifery
  • BASLP
  • B.Perfusion Technology

Cluster II

  • BAMS
  • BSc MLT
  • BSc MIT/BSc Radiotherapy Technology
  • BPT
  • B.Pharm
  • B.Optometry

Cluster III

  • Bachelor in Public Health (BPH)

Cluster IV

  • Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNS)
  • Bachelor in Midwifery Science (BMS)

About the Entrance Examination and Admission

The MECEE-BL examination consists of 200 Single Best Response (Type A) Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs), with each question containing four answer options. The stem or vignette of each question does not exceed 60 words.

Each correct answer carries one mark, while 0.25 marks are deducted for every incorrect response. The examination is conducted over a duration of three hours.

A total of 20 MCQs are allocated to the Mental Agility Test (MAT).

The cognitive difficulty level of the examination is distributed as follows:

  • Recall: 50%
  • Understanding: 30%
  • Application and Above: 20%

Candidates must obtain the 50th percentile or above to be included in the merit list.

Admission is carried out through an Open House Matching Process. If the number of eligible merit-listed candidates is lower than the seats allocated for foreign applicants, the matching process for foreign candidates will be conducted only once.

A separate merit list is published for each academic program. Once a candidate is matched and admitted to a particular program, their name is automatically removed from all remaining matching processes.

Candidates selected for admission must present their original academic and supporting documents at the respective university or academy during the admission process.

Candidates are responsible for making their own travel arrangements and must comply with all prevailing rules and regulations of the Government of Nepal.

The Medical Education Common Entrance Committee reserves the right to make final decisions regarding all matters related to the entrance examination.
