Tribhuvan University has launched Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) program nearly 8 years ago. In the first phase, this program was launched in six (6) constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University and were allocated 35 seats each. The program runs on semester-system under the Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences, and currently 126 institutions offers BCA-TU program.
The objective of the BCA program of Tribhuvan University is to produce high quality computer application users and developers. The program of study for Bachelor of Computer Application is over a period of eight semesters (four academic years). The academic year begins in September and February of each year. The medium of instruction and examination in the Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) program is English.

BCA at Tribhuvan University stands out for the following features:

Eligibility
To be eligible for the BCA program at Tribhuvan University, a candidate must have completed the intermediate level, secondary level (10+2), or twelve years of schooling (or an equivalent qualification) in any discipline from a recognised institution, with at least
- Minimum D grade in each subject of grade 11 and 12 with a CGPA 1.8 or more
- Minimum score of second division marks in 10+2, PCL, or equivalent in any discipline.
- Students who have passed grade 11 and are waiting for grade 12 results can also apply. However, they have to submit all the required documents at the time of admission.
Admission Criteria
Admission to the BCA program is merit-based and centres on an entrance examination:
The entrance exam is conducted once a year by the Dean's Office, Faculty of Humanities and Social Sciences (FOHSS).
Eligible candidates who successfully pass the entrance are admitted on a merit basis.
Admission forms generally open during Shrawan/Bhadra and, once filled at one college, are valid across all BCA colleges/campuses; students need not fill separate forms for each institution.
Fee
The tuition fees for the TU-affiliated Bachelor of Computer Application (BCA) program vary considerably depending on the type of institution. Constituent campuses of Tribhuvan University offer the most affordable option, with total program costs generally ranging from approximately Rs. 3 to 4 lakhs. Community colleges typically charge slightly higher fees than constituent campuses while remaining significantly more affordable than most private colleges.
Private colleges have greater flexibility in determining their fee structures, resulting in a wide variation in total costs. Based on the fee structures of several TU-affiliated colleges, the overall cost of completing a BCA program at private institutions generally ranges from Rs. 5 lakhs to Rs. 8 lakhs, depending on the college, facilities, and services included.
For example, Patan Multiple Campus, a TU constituent campus, charges an admission fee of Rs. 70,250, with a total estimated fee of around Rs. 3,40,000 for all eight semesters. In comparison, private institutions such as Orchid College and Texas International College charge approximately Rs. 6.4 lakhs and Rs. 7.6 lakhs, respectively, for the complete four-year program.
Job Prospects
BCA graduates can apply for a post of system analysts, system managers, project managers, database administrators, system designers and programmers in IT Companies. Information industries and manufacture industries are always seeking for BCA graduates.
Students completing their Bachelor's degree in Computer Application are further eligible to study in any faculties which come under the Management and Information Technology such as MCA, MIT, MBA and many more.
Curricular Structure
The BCA curriculum spans four academic years and eight semesters, totalling 130 credit hours. Each semester runs 16 weeks of teaching and learning, and the medium of instruction is English.
The structure builds progressively: the first year grounds students in computing fundamentals, C programming, digital logic, mathematics, and professional communication; the second and third years move into data structures, databases, web technologies, operating systems, software engineering, networks, and artificial intelligence; and the fourth year adds specialised electives, cyber security, software project management, cloud computing, and a full internship.
Project work runs through six of the eight semesters, reinforcing applied, hands-on learning alongside theory.
