The BSc Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) or Bachelor in Medical Laboratory Technology (BMLT) program is a comprehensive four-year, full-time course. It is structured as an annual or eight-semester system spanning 48 months. The curriculum includes core subjects such as Clinical Biochemistry, Hematology and Blood Banking, Clinical Microbiology, Histopathology, and Cytology.

BMLT students engage in various educational activities, including lectures, tutorials, seminars, field visits, lab work, and practical classes, ensuring a well-rounded and thorough understanding of medical laboratory science.

To get enrollment in BSc MLT or BMLT program in Nepal, students must appear and pass the MECEE-BL. 

BSc MLT/BMLT Colleges in Nepal

Three universities in Nepal—Tribhuvan University, Pokhara University, and Rajarshi Janak University—along with three health science academies—B.P. Koirala Institute of Health Sciences (BPKIHS), Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences, and Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences—offer the BSc Medical Laboratory Technology (MLT) program. Kathmandu University offers a similar program under the name BSc Laboratory Medicine.

Tribhuvan University has affiliated ten colleges to run the BMLT program, while Pokhara University has affiliated four colleges. Kathmandu University runs its program through three medical colleges, whereas the health science academies conduct their programs exclusively through their constituent schools.

Eligibility

  • Must have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects from a recognized educational institution and passed with a minimum of 50% or 2.4 CGPA/GPA in the Proficiency Certificate Level or Grade 12 Science Group.

or

  • Students from A-level or other similar programs with different grading systems should have studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology subjects and passed with a minimum of 50 percent or 2.4 CGPA/GPA. The applicant must have got the equivalence letter. 

or

  • Proficiency Certificate Level in Medical Lab Technology with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and registered in the Nepal Health Professional Council. 

or

  • Proficiency Certificate/Diploma in Health Science (Medical Lab Technology or Ophthalmic Science or Dental Science or Pharmacy or Radiography or Ayurveda or Physiotherapy) with minimum 50% marks in aggregate and having studied Physics, Chemistry and Biology subject with minimum 50% in aggregate or 2.4 CGPA/GPA marks from National Examination Board and obtained the equivalence of class 12th science group. The candidate must have registered iwith the concerned council.
