About Us

SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Pokhara is one of the seven SOS Hermann Gmeiner schools across Nepal, and one of the two in Pokhara valley.

SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Pokhara was formally inaugurated on June 6, 1987 with 64 students at Chhorepatan. It was an extension of a small existing Day Care Center. In 1995, further extension of the school was added by inaugurating the high school section with hostel facilities at Gharipatan. The school has now grown into a full-fledged K-12 school.

SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Pokhara continues to strive by its founding goals of providing an all-round education to the children of the SOS CV Pokhara and the children of Tibetan community in Pokhara valley and in Western Nepal, whereby they could follow the National Curriculum and also learn Tibetan Language and practice their cultural traditions. The school also draws children from the high Himalayan belts of Nepal who share religious, cultural and linguistic affinity. The school also provides educational opportunities to deserving children of the local community in the immediate vicinity; so much so that many have become equally fluent and proficient in Tibetan language. This makes SOS HGS Pokhara a unique educational center, where different communities meet and share same learning environment.

At SOS Hermann Gmeiner School Pokhara, the effort has always been about creating a dynamic learning environment - one that is rich in co-curricular activities throughout our academic calendar. It is also the only secondary level school in Pokhara valley maintaining a vibrant Tibetan language curriculum while following Nepal’s National Curriculum and SOS guidelines at the same time to meet the academic goals.
