ABOUT

The World Youth International School was opened on September 14, 1999, with the purpose to train local teachers and provide a rich, dynamic education for its students. The school provides children with a quality education through shared cultural teachings and experiences.

The World Youth International School was built in the memory of WYI founder, Robert Hoey – a young dedicated man, who encouraged personal challenge in others and promoted the values of self-worth, awareness and understanding through education. Nepal was chosen because at the time, it had the third lowest literacy rate in the world. Approximately 87% of women and 70% of men were illiterate.

When the school first opened, there were 24 children enrolled. The school commenced with pre-school, upper and lower kindergarten, grade one and two. At that time it was perfect as it allowed up the opportunity to hire and select teachers, put systems in place and work on the school curriculum.

The school now caters for students up to year 10 and currently has 505 students attending the school, 30 of whom live at the Sapana Dreaming Center for Humanity. The current average grade pass is 96% making it of the top-rated schools in Nepal. The School is currently in the process of being extended to include schooling for year 11 and 12 students.
