Pancha Kanya Basic School is a community school situated in Lamtangin Marg. It is approximately two kilometers away from the Nepal Rastra Bank headquarters in Baluwatar, in the opposite direction.
Despite its appearance, Pancha Kanya Basic School in Ward Number 4 of Kathmandu Metropolitan City offers facilities akin to those of a reputable boarding school. Principal Binita Ranjit recounts instances where visitors mistook it for a boarding school due to its infrastructure and educational offerings. With a focus on English medium instruction from Nursery to Class Five and a curriculum emphasizing science, mathematics, and computer studies in English from grades six to eight, the school caters to a diverse student body primarily comprising individuals from the Tamang community and remote districts.
There are 16 teachers in this school, 14 of whom are women and two men. There are 269 students in nine classes, 142 boys and 127 girls. Each class has a teaching capacity of at least 35 students, and currently, every class is operating at full capacity.
Its success is attributed to the dedication of its teachers, the familial atmosphere, and the trust of the community. The school's commitment to excellence extends beyond academics, with extracurricular activities including football, music, and dance, fostering well-rounded development and challenging stereotypes surrounding public education.
