Approaches to learning (ATL) are an integral part of an IB education, offering up an array of lenses for students to promulgate their inquiries. The ATL are crucial for exploring knowledge within the transdisciplinary themes or global context: they help students think, research, communicate, socialize and manage themselves effectively. Primary Years Programme Early Years

Swostishree Gurukul IB World School is an authorized IB PYP institution offering the Primary Years Programme (PYP) for learners aged 3 to 12 years, covering PG to Grade 5. The early years program follows the same inquiry-based teaching and learning approach as the IB PYP, incorporating play-based learning and the Reggio Emilia approach. This methodology provides young learners with a real-world environment where they can engage, interact, and explore.

The early years program emphasizes stimulating and supportive interactions between peers and teachers and effective curricula use. The PYP framework caters to young learners by fostering an environment encouraging curiosity, exploration, and relationship-building. Recognizing that children grow and learn at different rates, the program integrates socio-emotional, physical, and cognitive development through play and meaningful interactions with teachers, peers, families, and the community.

Swostishree Gurukul's early years block has spacious and resourceful classrooms, an attractive outdoor play area with greenery, and various facilities, including a playroom, nap room, garden, sand pit, mini dining hall, AV room, and child-friendly washrooms. Primary Years Programme

The Primary Years Programme (PYP) is a student-centered educational framework designed for children aged 3-12. It is based on the belief that students are active participants in their own learning and collaborative partners in the educational process. The framework prioritizes relationships and community-building to foster a strong learning environment. PYP students take initiative, assume responsibility for their learning, and engage in inquiry-based learning and reflection to develop knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills, and attributes aligned with the International Baccalaureate (IB) learner profile. This approach empowers students to make a meaningful impact on their own lives, communities, and beyond.

The PYP framework is structured around the principle of agency, which influences three core aspects of school life: the learner, learning and teaching, and the learning community. The IB learner profile embodies a range of intellectual, personal, emotional, and social attributes that contribute to holistic growth. Demonstrating these attributes is central to the IB's vision of international-mindedness, and all members of the learning community, including students, educators, parents, and school leaders, are encouraged to uphold and model these qualities.

Guided by the learner profile, an IB education emphasizes four key aspects:

The PYP is designed to support the development of the whole child as an inquirer, both in and beyond the classroom. It follows six transdisciplinary themes of global significance, integrating knowledge and skills from six subject areas: language, social studies, mathematics, arts, science, and personal, social, and physical education. The program is flexible, allowing it to align with national or local curricula while providing strong preparation for the IB Middle Years Programme (MYP).

The PYP recognizes the importance of student agency and self-efficacy, promoting independence and responsibility in learning. It addresses students' academic, social, and emotional well-being while encouraging them to develop a strong understanding of the world. Additionally, it supports the establishment of personal values that serve as a foundation for international-mindedness and offers opportunities for students to learn more than one language from the age of seven.

Transdisciplinary learning in the PYP emphasizes connections across subjects and real-world relevance. Through the six transdisciplinary themes, students integrate knowledge, conceptual understanding, skills, and personal attributes, allowing them to reflect on the significance of their learning and take meaningful action in their communities. This process cultivates competent, self-motivated learners who are equipped with the cognitive, social, and emotional tools needed for lifelong learning.

Middle Years Programme

The Middle Years Programme (MYP) is designed for students aged 11 to 16, providing a structured learning framework that promotes creativity, critical thinking, and reflection. It emphasizes intellectual challenge by encouraging students to connect their academic studies with real-world applications. The program fosters essential skills such as communication, intercultural understanding, and global engagement, preparing students to become future leaders.

Flexible in nature, the MYP can be adapted to meet national and local curriculum requirements. It builds on the foundation established by the IB Primary Years Programme (PYP) and equips students with the necessary knowledge and skills to transition into the IB Diploma Programme (DP) or the IB Career-related Programme (CP).

The MYP supports students' holistic development, addressing their intellectual, social, emotional, and physical well-being. It provides opportunities for students to develop essential skills to navigate complexity and take responsible actions for the future. The program ensures both breadth and depth of understanding by incorporating eight subject groups and requires students to study at least two languages to enhance cultural awareness. Additionally, the MYP encourages community service, helping students develop a sense of social responsibility and preparing them for higher education, careers, and lifelong learning.

The curriculum includes eight subject groups: language acquisition, language and literature, individuals and societies, sciences, mathematics, arts, physical and health education, and design. Each subject group requires a minimum of 50 hours of instruction annually. In the final two years, students may choose courses from six of the eight subject groups, allowing for greater flexibility.

The MYP takes a unique and globally relevant approach by focusing on students' personal development and sense of responsibility within their communities. Teachers design the curriculum with an emphasis on:

• Teaching and learning in context – Learning experiences are connected to students' lives and global issues, fostering an understanding of identity and international-mindedness.
