The Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSc Nursing) is a four-year program designed for +2 Biology students aspiring to pursue a nursing career. In our country, four universities and seven health science academies offer the BSc Nursing program. Much of the curriculum overlaps with the Bachelor in Nursing Science (BNS) program, which is aimed at staff nurses seeking to advance to mid-level nursing careers.
The Maharajgunj Nursing Campus under the TU Institute of Medicine is recognized as the pioneering institution for nursing education, having graduated thousands of nursing professionals from MNC and its four other constituent nursing campuses. Besides Tribhuvan University, Kathmandu University, Pokhara University, and Purbanchal University also offer BSc Nursing programs.
Medical Education Commission fix the seats for the B.Sc Nursing program. In 2024, MEC has fixed 1720 seats.
To get enrollment in the BSc Nursing program, students should sit and pass a common entrance examination; MECEE-BL which selects students based on merit and inclusion criteria.
The health science academies offering the BSc Nursing program through their constituent campuses include Madhesh Institute of Health Sciences (MIHS), Madan Bhandari Academy of Health Sciences, National Academy of Medical Sciences, Pokhara Academy of Health Sciences, Rapti Academy of Health Sciences, BPKIHS, and Patan Academy of Health Sciences.
Each of these academies has its own curriculum, delivery methods, and examination systems. Upon completing the BSc Nursing program, graduates must pass the Nursing License Exam to practice as nursing professionals in hospitals or other healthcare facilities.
