Nawa Jagriti Secondary School

Shree Nawa Jagriti Secondary School is a community-based public school located in Kathmandu Metropolitan City–6, Ramhiti, Kathmandu district, Bagmati Province. Established in 2055 B.S. (1999 A.D.), the school was founded through the initiative of the Ramhiti Bajranagar Area Reform Committee with the aim of expanding access to affordable and quality education for children from the local community.

The history of the school is closely tied to strong community participation and social commitment. In 2054 B.S., the foundation of the school was laid with financial support of NRs. 22,000 provided by a Nepali-origin Canadian citizen named Tina, which was donated to the Ramhiti Women’s Group. At a time when government schools had limited seats and private education was unaffordable for many families, the women’s group collectively decided to utilize this support to establish a school for local children. Through the voluntary labor (janashramdaan) of more than 40 women, a six-room school building was successfully constructed, marking the beginning of Nawa Jagriti Secondary School.

Teaching and learning activities formally began in 2055 B.S. In the years that followed, the school continued to grow with the support of various government and non-government organizations, education enthusiasts, industrialists, teachers, parents, education experts, and the media. This collective effort eventually led to the construction of the present permanent school building. The school currently occupies approximately one acre (one ropani) of land, including 0-07-02-02 land donated by industrialist Mr. Shambhu Bikram Thapa and Mrs. Menuka Devi Thapa.

Today, Shree Nawa Jagriti Secondary School provides education from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 10, serving as an important educational institution for the Ramhiti area. According to the 2081 IEMIS report published by the Center for Education and Human Resource Development, the school has 574 enrolled students, reflecting its continued trust and relevance within the community.
