Shree Janata Secondary School, located in Gauridanda, Bardibas Municipality in Mahottari, was established in 2031 B.S.. The school was established with the motive to make education accessible and available to the general public considering the lack of educated manpower in the area and the compulsion for students to travel far for education during that time. The educational framework of the school offers classes from Playgroup to Grade 12, all conducted in English medium here.
Janata Secondary School is considered one of the best in terms of quality in Madhesh Province. The main reason behind the overwhelming attraction of students and parents toward this school is its quality education. Since 2068 B.S., the school has been offering secondary-level education. From 2070 B.S., it has also introduced Animal Science as a subject from Grade 9 onwards.Another unique policy of this school is that teachers are required to enroll their own children in the same school. This policy has been in place since 2071 B.S.
Education in Janata Secondary School is free up to Grade 7, while from Grade 8 to diploma level, fees are charged. However, these fees are not mandatory for all. Local students, Dalits, underprivileged, meritorious, and differently-abled students receive free education up to Grade 12.
Since 2069 B.S., the school has been offering technical and vocational education, including Animal Science from Grades 9 to 12. In 2071 B.S., the Medical Science diploma program was introduced, followed by Plant Science in 2072 B.S.. The school also provides education for visually impaired students.
There is a unique tradition at the school where mothers themselves cook and serve the midday meals to the students. No junk food or harmful processed food is brought in from outside. Instead, the meals are healthy and hygienic, prepared just like those they would serve their own children at home.
The school’s 10-year strategy includes the vision that every student graduating from the school should possess some form of skill. Under the “Earn and Learn” program, students enrolled in technical education are trained in pig, poultry, and fish farming through school-run demonstration farms. These farms are established on school premises to facilitate hands-on practical training.
The school's holistic approach emphasizing academic excellence, technical skills, inclusive policies, nutritious meals, and strong stakeholder collaboration, has positioned it not just as a school, but as a model for sustainable, community-led educational development in Nepal. With a clear 10-year strategic plan and an unwavering mission to empower every student with both knowledge and practical skills, Janata Secondary School is truly paving the way for what the future of public education in Nepal can look like.
