B.Sc. Laboratory Medicine is a four years degree program led by nationally and internationally renowned faculties, laboratory professional, doctors, researcher and biomedical engineers under KUSMS. 

Bachelor of Science in Laboratory Medicine (B.Sc.Lab. Med.) Program is a new course of Kathmandu University. KU started this program from the academic year 2019. 

Laboratory Medicine is one of the fastest growing specialty in our nation and abroad. No doubt, medicine and engineering are the most appreciated course in our society and this course is especially designed for such young minds who are equally interested in medicine and engineering but still confused to select the best one for different reasons. 

Laboratory Medicine can be ideal course for them because when they operate high-tech robotic systems with advanced software in clinical laboratory will thrill them as they can contribute in the diagnosis and management of disease. 

Graduate will be competent enough to perform variety of laboratory test, interpretation of the results and will be able to handle and take care of sophisticated robotic analyzers being used in clinical laboratories. 

Similarly, comprehensive knowledge and skill of Total Quality Laboratory Management will establish them as a young and emerging leader in the diagnostic laboratories. 

Aims of Program:

The B.Sc. Laboratory Medicine program will produce competent and skilled laboratory medicine expert with advanced knowledge and practical skills to diagnose disease, conduct laboratory research; and train people in their respective fields of expertise around the world. This degree will build you with everything you need to work as a medical scientist in different range of area in healthcare facility. But the journey does not have to end when you graduate. This qualification gives you an excellent foundation for further study in laboratory medicine, or for other qualifications and careers in medicine and healthcare. You'll be eligible for membership of the Nepal Health Professional council as a medical laboratory scientist/technologist.

Beginning of 4th Year (VII Semester): NRs. 204,000/-

Total Fee: NRs. 1,100,000/-

Hostel Fee: NRs. 3000 per month (Only residential)

Eligibility

  • Passed10+2 Science or equivalent (with Physics, Chemistry, and Biology) with 50% aggregate in total marks or GPA  2.4 OR, 
  • Secured the percentage equivalent to the above eligibility in regards to the certificate level programs (eg. A-Level) with a different grading system OR,
  • Applicants who have passed the Health Science Proficiency Certificate/Diploma (General Medicine, Medical Lab Technology, Ophthalmic Science, Dental Science, Pharmacy, Ayurveda, Radiography, Physiotherapy) with at least 50% aggregate in total marks AND
  • Registered in Nepal Health Professional Council of Nepal Pharmacy Council or Nepal Ayurveda Council as per related educational program.

Provisions for Admission Process

  1. In order to pass the integrated admission process, a minimum of 50 percent marks should be obtained.

  2. One mark will be awarded for each correct answer and marks will be deducted at the rate of 0.25 for each wrong answer.

Provisions for Scholarships

As per Rule 20 of the National Medical Education Rules, 2077, out of the total scholarship seats to be awarded to the Government of Nepal at the undergraduate level, 55 percent of the seats will be distributed through open competition and 45 percent of the seats will be distributed on the basis of the following:

Candidates who have been successfully selected in the admission process will have to submit the following original and 1/1 photocopy of the following documents to the concerned educational institution at the time of admission.

  1. Certificate of qualification, Transcript and Character Certificate of 10+2 and SLC/SEE or Equivalent.

  2. Copy of Citizenship / Passport.

  3. Admit card of the Entrance Examination.

  4. Documents submitted for reservation.

  5. Certificate of Equivalence for the students with certificates from foreign institutions.

Selection Criteria

The selection of the candidate will be done on the merit basis of common entrance examination conducted by Medical Education Commission of Nepal.
