Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) is a non-profit educational institution that offers exceptional primary and secondary education to a culturally diverse student body of around 220 individuals hailing from approximately 20 different countries. KISC follows an International Curriculum.

ABOUT

The Kathmandu International Study Centre (KISC) was founded to cater to the educational needs of the children of missionaries who came to Nepal to provide humanitarian aid following the country's opening up to foreigners in the early 1950s. KISC was established in 1987 by United Mission To Nepal (UMN) and International Nepal Fellowship (INF) and has since gained a strong reputation as an International Christian School in Nepal. In 2007, ownership of KISC was transferred to the Nepali NGO, Human Development And Community Services (HDCS), by the Ministry of Education of the Government of Nepal.

KISC has been re-accredited by the Middle States Association: Commission on Elementary and Secondary Schools (MSA, USA) for another seven years, starting from April 2022. In addition, KISC serves as a center for Cambridge International Examinations (UK) and has recently received accreditation from the British School Overseas (BSO).

Mission

  • To provide excellent education, primarily for the Christian mission community and Nepali school communities, based on biblical values. Through KISC’s international K-12 school and EQUIP teacher training program, students and staff will positively impact their world.

  • To be living witnesses of Christ’s love through excellent education.
  • KISC aims to live according to the KISC values: community, love, grace, excellence, and justice.

Salient Features

Child Safeguarding Policy

Operating in Nepal, the non-profit organization Human Development and Community Services (HDCS) focuses on three core sectors: health, education, and community development. To ensure a safe and supportive environment for children, HDCS has established a child safeguarding policy that sets out guidelines for all members and associates of the organization. As a part of HDCS, KISC adheres to the overarching child safeguarding policy and has developed a supplementary appendix that applies the policy specifically to its operations. To implement the HDCS policy and KISC appendix, the school has established its own procedures, which can be accessed on its website. As a member of the Child Safety and Protection Network, KISC receives guidance and training from an international agency to enhance its child safeguarding practices.

Library

At KISC, the library aims to support students in achieving academic excellence. To facilitate research, you can browse through the vast collection of books, journals, and other reference materials by title, author, subject, or series. Additionally, they offer an account system that enables you to manage your library transactions independently. With an account, you can save your searches, place requests, email bibliographies, renew loans, make reservations, and receive customized alerts tailored to your preferences.

Health & Well-Being

At KISC, they prioritize the health and wellness of the school community. To ensure that the students and staff are in good health, the school has a school doctor available on site every school day who provides exceptional medical care to students with minor illnesses and injuries. They also offer health education to the students, staff, and parents that includes training in first aid and emergency care.

Student Support

The Student Support Faculty aims to assist all students across the Primary and Secondary Schools, particularly those with diverse learning styles and needs. The school believes that each student is unique and precious, as mentioned in Psalm 139v14, and therefore they strive to enhance their distinctive abilities and talents.

Personal Care

The primary purpose of KISC Pastoral Care is to offer encouragement, support and guidance to both students and staff within the Whole School Community. The focus in this area is on the following: identifying students who require additional support due to poor behaviour, falling motivation, lack of focus, poor attendance or punctuality, and other non-academic concerns; maintaining regular communication with families and carers of these students to keep them updated on their progress and personal growth objectives, and to secure their support; fostering a safe, comfortable and respectful environment for students; promoting positive interaction among students; providing opportunities for students to develop their abilities, skills and talents; and cultivating a sense of responsibility in students towards themselves and others.
