Colleges Offering Bachelor in Mathematics in Nepal

A Bachelor's degree in Mathematical Science is an undergraduate program focused on the study of mathematical theories, models, and their practical applications across various fields. This program is designed to cultivate analytical and problem-solving skills, providing students with a robust foundation in mathematics applicable to diverse industries such as finance, technology, research, and education. Graduates of Mathematical Science programs are well-prepared to pursue careers as actuaries, data analysts, statisticians, researchers, educators, and more.

Tribhuvan University established the School of Mathematical Sciences (SMS TU) in 2016. Recognizing the demands of the modern computerized world for professionals with analytical ability, data processing capability, and fast computing efficiency, TU decided to offer Bachelor's and Master's Degree Programs in Mathematical Sciences. These programs aim to produce a critical mass of experts proficient in mathematics, statistics, data analysis, and computer science fundamentals.

Kathmandu University launched a B.Sc in Mathematics with a specialization in Computer Science in 1999. As a continuation of this program, KU started a B.Sc in Computational Mathematics in 2017 with an updated curriculum structure for the first time in South Asia. This degree prepares a student either for direct employment in industries or for higher studies in Mathematics and IT fields after graduation.

Job Prospects

After completing a Bachelor in Mathematics, graduates have various career options. They can pursue research, advancing mathematical knowledge in academic institutions, research labs, or government agencies. Many become mathematics educators, teaching at high school or college levels, and with additional education, at elementary or middle schools. The analytical skills gained are in demand in data analysis and statistical modeling in industries like finance, insurance, market research, and data science. Graduates excel in operations research, solving complex problems in logistics and supply chain management. Actuarial science is another path, where actuaries assess risk in insurance and finance. Opportunities also exist in cryptography, AI, computer graphics, and software development. Lastly, their skills are highly valued in the finance and banking sectors, making these industries attractive career options.
