St. Xavier's School, Deonia (SXD), established in 1999, is the first Jesuit School outside the Kathmandu Valley, located in Jhapa district of Nepal. It is an English-medium school under the management of the Nepal Jesuit Society, the Nepal branch of the Society of Jesus, an international Catholic religious order. The Society of Jesus is present in 114 countries and runs more than 2,000 educational institutions of various types and levels.
The core aim of Jesuit education is to transform students into global citizens, or "men and women for others," who are intellectually competent, morally upright, emotionally healthy, socially and environmentally responsible, and spiritually grounded, and who are committed to lives of service and social justice. In Nepal, the Jesuits began their work with St. Xavier's Godavari (1951), followed by St. Xavier's Jawalakhel (1954) and St. Xavier's Maitighar (1988), before starting SXD.
SXD was established with the vision of holistically educating and nurturing the young generation residing in the far eastern part of Nepal. With its motto of "Live for God and Lead for Nepal," the school aims to transform students into global citizens and the best versions of themselves to make a difference in society. Besides academic excellence, SXD focuses on providing value-based, holistic education, imparting critical thinking skills, fostering a sense of universal brotherhood, and emphasizing social and environmental responsibility.
For the last 25 years, SXD has worked to enlighten students about their obligation to be responsible members of society and the nation by living the Xavierian values founded on the philosophy and principles of Jesuit education. Today, many students from the school have made indelible marks in the nation and the world through their achievements and contributions.
