Mahendra Model Secondary School, located in the headquarters of Darchula district in Nepal’s Province No. 7, stands as a model institution committed to shaping qualified human resources. Established on Janai Purnima, July 27, 2017 (Nepali calendar), as a middle school, it gradually expanded into a high school in 2025 and later achieved secondary school status in 2050/051 through the dedication of community leaders, social workers, donors, and educators.
The school’s steady progress, backed by visionary leadership and dedicated efforts, earned it the prestigious title of "Model Higher Secondary School" from the HSEB in 2062. With strong management of physical and human resources, it has consistently produced graduates who excel both nationally and internationally.
In 2073, with the initiative of the District Education Office, Darchula, the former Primary School Khalanga was integrated into Mahendra Model Secondary School. Today, the school operates from pre-primary to class 12 under the name Shree Mahendra Model Secondary School, Khalanga, continuing its legacy of academic excellence and community-driven progress. The school also offers Diploma in Civil Engineering with the recent affiliation from CTEVT.
