ABOUT

Gyanodaya Model Secondary School, located in Khajura Rural Municipality-3, Khajura Bazar, Nepalgunj, in the Banke district of Nepal, is a prominent educational institution offering classes from Early Childhood Development (ECD) to Grade 12. It was established in 2034 B.S. With a current enrollment of 2,108 students in year 2082, the school has seen a growing demand for admission, including 251 new enrollments from students transferring from other institutions this academic year. To accommodate the increasing student population, the school has added 43 additional classes and recruited 15 new teachers and 13 support staff through private resources. The current teacher-to-student ratio stands at 2:35.

Gyanodaya has gained recognition for its outstanding academic performance, particularly in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) and Grade 11–12 results, which surpass the performance of many other public schools in western Nepal. In the academic year, 2080, 90% of the students who took the SEE exam passed, with a notable number achieving high grades. Presently, 178 students are studying in Grade 10, and student numbers in Grades 11 and 12 remain high. The school had 563 students enrolled in its Plus Two (10+2) program last year, with a pass rate of 61% and an academic achievement score of 58.66.

In line with the preferences of parents and students, Gyanodaya conducts English-medium instruction from Grades 1 to 6, and offers both English and Nepali mediums for Grades 6 to 10. Students enrolling in Grade 6 after completing Grade 5 are given the option to choose their preferred language of instruction. This bilingual approach, coupled with the school’s boarding-style uniforms and low-fee, high-quality education model, has significantly increased its popularity.

The school offers free education from Grades 1 to 8. For Grades 9 and 10, tuition remains free for Nepali-medium students, while English-medium students pay a monthly fee of NPR 900 and NPR 1,000, respectively. Students using school transportation or attending coaching classes pay an additional NPR 600 per month.

To improve academic outcomes, particularly for SEE candidates, the school runs annual coaching classes in English, Mathematics, and Science from Asar (June/July) to Chaitra (March/April). These sessions are tailored based on students’ proximity to the school, with coaching held in the morning and/or evening. A minimal monthly fee of NPR 600 is charged for these sessions.

Recognized as a model school in 2073 B.S. (2016/17), Gyanodaya began offering technical education in civil engineering in Grade 9 and later expanded to offer science education in Grades 11 and 12 from 2076 B.S. onwards. With support from the Model Secondary School Development Program and local government funding, the school has constructed 37 classrooms, installed 100 new desk-bench sets, and built 30 toilets for students and staff. Additionally, the school has developed well-equipped science and computer labs.

Gyanodaya is also committed to integrating Information and Communication Technology (ICT) into teaching. Every teacher has been provided with a laptop, and the school regularly organizes training to enhance teaching capacity. It conducts three major exams annually and requires parents to attend the result publication events to ensure active involvement in student progress.

The school operates two buses funded by local government grants, enabling students from distant areas to commute easily. It also offers attractive and child-friendly classrooms for ECD and nursery-level children, with appropriate teaching aids, toys, and trained staff. Currently, 318 children are enrolled at the nursery and ECD level, where the learning achievement rate is 78%.

Spanning nearly two bighas of land, the school campus comprises ten buildings with a total of 66 rooms, including fully functional science labs (Physics, Chemistry, Biology), a library, and reading corners in each classroom. Gyanodaya continues to emphasize interactive and practical learning, offering a vibrant academic environment backed by strong infrastructure and a committed team of educators.

The school’s success is the result of the collective efforts of teachers, students, parents, and the school management committee. Its reputation for academic excellence, well-managed infrastructure, and quality education at affordable costs has made it a top choice among students aspiring to pursue careers in science, engineering, and other professional fields.
