Palungtar Municipality is one of the 11 municipalities in Gorkha District of Gandaki Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 37,409, comprising 17,262 males (46.1%) and 20,147 females (53.9%), with a literacy rate of 75.41%. Spanning 158.62 square kilometers, Palungtar Municipality exhibits the population density of 236 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 10 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Palungtar has 47 schools. Of these, 8 are private and 38 are public. The breakdown includes 29 pre-schools, 44 basic schools, and 18 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 12 offer +2 programs.
