The University Grants Commission (UGC) Nepal has accredited four additional Higher Education Institutions (HEIs) as part of its institutional quality assurance initiative. The accredited institutions include the Mid-West University School of Management (MUSoM), Madan Bhandari Memorial College (MBMC), Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences (MMIHS), and Bagiswori College (BC). These institutions represent different regions, with MUSoM located in Surkhet, MBMC, MMIHS in Kathmandu, and BC in Bhaktapur.
UGC Chairperson Prof. Dr. Dev Raj Adhikari formally awarded the accreditation certificates in two separate ceremonies held at the UGC seminar hall. The first ceremony, organized by the EQAAC Secretariat on January 5, 2025 (Poush 21, 2081 BS), recognized MMIHS and BC, while the second ceremony on January 9, 2025 (Poush 25, 2081 BS), accredited MUSoM and MBMC.
The events were attended by distinguished guests, including UGC Secretary Prof. Shankar Prasad Bhandari, Mid-West University Vice-Chancellor Prof. Dr. Dhruba Kumar Gautam, Registrar Prof. Dr. Shobhakhar Kandel, Dean of the Institute of Medicine (IOM) Prof. Dr. Mohan Raj Sharma, PRT team leaders, UGC technical advisors, IQAC Director of Tribhuvan University, and representatives from the accredited institutions.
According to the EQAA Regulations 2017, accreditation is valid for five years, subject to an annual review process to ensure compliance with quality standards.
Profile of Accredited Institutions
1) Bagiswori College, Bhaktapur
Established in 2064 B.S., Bagiswori College is a community campus affiliated with Tribhuvan University, offering programs such as BA, BBS, MA, and MBS. It holds the distinction of being the first accredited HEI in Bhaktapur District. The accreditation process began with the submission of a Letter of Intent (LOI) on Bhadra 21, 2072, followed by the approval of its Self-Study Report (SSR) on Poush 6, 2076.
2) Manmohan Memorial Institute of Health Sciences (MMIHS), Kathmandu
Founded in 2064 B.S., MMIHS is a private institution affiliated with Tribhuvan University. It offers undergraduate and postgraduate programs, including B.Sc. MLT, B. Pharmacy, BPH, B. Sc. Nursing, BNS, M.Sc. Clinical Biochemistry, Master of Nursing (MN), and MPH. The accreditation process began with the submission of the LOI on Srawan 17, 2075, and the approval of the SSR on Falgun 4, 2078.
3) Madan Bhandari Memorial College (MBMC), Kathmandu
Established in 2057 B.S., MBMC is a community campus affiliated with Tribhuvan University. It provides courses such as BA, BBS, BCA, BBM, BScCSIT, and MA. The accreditation journey began with LOI submission on Bhadra 21, 2072, and the SSR was approved on Chaitra 12, 2080.
4) Mid-West University School of Management (MUSoM), Surkhet
MUSoM, a constituent school of Mid-West University, was founded in 2019 A.D. in Surkhet. It offers BBA and MBA programs. The accreditation process commenced with LOI submission on Ashad 24, 2075, followed by SSR approval on Falgun 5, 2076.
Each of these institutions completed the rigorous accreditation process, which included submitting an LOI, approving a self-study report, assessing peer review teams, conducting preparatory and final assessment visits, and submitting response reports. The Educational Quality Assessment and Accreditation Council (EQAAC) recommended their accreditation to the UGC Board, which formally approved and awarded the accreditations on various dates in Poush 2081.
This milestone underscores UGC Nepal’s commitment to ensuring quality education in higher institutions across the country and promoting academic excellence through accreditation and continuous evaluation.
