Kathmandu University, School of Arts, and School of Engineering jointly launched the Bachelor of Craft and Design program. Bachelor of Craft and Design is a four-year program offered by the KU School of Arts and School of Engineering, focusing on an experiential learning approach.
The KU sources said that Students engaged in experiential learning can evaluate and reflect on their practices. The degree provides a platform for practical, historical, and philosophical understanding of craft and design.
As informed, students will be engaged with various materials and processes throughout the course, including metal, wood, jeweler, stone, ceramics, natural fibers, animal products, textiles, to digital fabrication.
The exposure will provide them with a diversified skill set and the capacity to experiment with many materials, which may be applied to various craft and design disciplines such as furniture design, fashion design, product design, interior design, and more. They will also gain hands-on experience by engaging in independent projects and peer learning seminars, allowing them to excel in their craft practice and develop their design idioms and approaches.
Everyone who has earned a +2 or an equivalent degree is eligible to apply. Students keen to acquire creative techniques and skills can apply for this program. Along with the new enthusiasts, the program is open for craft industry experts willing to further develop innovation, design, and technology.
