Following the release of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) results, students and their parents are pondering over the subject choices for admission into Class 11. Since numerous schools that offer classes 11 and 12 have arranged entrance exams, students are preoccupied with taking exams in multiple institutions. They are eager to discover which schools provide scholarships or offer fee discounts based on their graded marks.
The admission procedure for Class 11 in several prominent private colleges has nearly concluded. However, the absence of the national admissions calendar, aligned with the examination schedule, has caused confusion among students and parents. Dr. Mahashram Sharma, the Chairman of the National Examination Board, emphasized the need for coordination between central educational bodies and local authorities to ensure effective management. The board has consistently advocated for standardized examinations.
Kathmandu Metropolitan City has released a public notification, allowing a grace period of 15 days for admissions after the announcement of the SEE results. Simultaneously, preparations are underway for the scholarship examination conducted by the city itself. Individuals aspiring to pursue studies with a scholarship in the academic session 2080/81 at educational institutions within the metropolitan area are instructed to complete the online application form from Asadh 28 to Shrawan 12. The scholarship examination is scheduled for the 20th of Shrawan.
The Metropolitan Corporation has issued a directive mandating private schools to submit and gain approval for their Class 11 fee structures prior to admissions. It has been observed that many local authorities across the country have not been able to effectively monitor and guide the education provided in classes 11 and 12 in a systematic manner.
To be eligible for Class 11 admission, students must have successfully completed the secondary education examination (SEE) in Class 10 and attained a minimum average grade point (GPA) of 1.6 in the SEE results. The National Examination Board has already communicated this requirement, based on the correspondence received from the Curriculum Development Center in Sanothimi, in accordance with the decision made during the meeting of the National Curriculum Development and Evaluation Council on Bhadra 19, 2079.
According to the principal of Padmodaya Secondary School, Narayan Prasad Gautam, the entrance examination for students aspiring to study Science in Class 11 will be held on Shrawan 3 as part of the first phase. He further stated that if the quota of 80 students is not met, another examination will be scheduled. Due to insufficient laboratory facilities, the school is unable to increase the student quota. The principal advised students to collaborate with their friends, discuss their preferences, and finalize their subject and school choices, taking into account their convenience and feasibility.
According to Lok Bahadur Bhandari, the Managing Director of Xavier International School, it has been observed that students make decisions about subject choices and schools not only based on information they receive but also by researching through social media and firsthand observations. They consider factors such as the school's quality, conducive environment, teaching resources, and adherence to international standards. Bhandari highlighted that even students with a GPA of 4 seek admission to his college, emphasizing the importance of embracing fair competition among private schools.
As per Lumadi Karki, the representative of the Nepali Consumer Federation, the expenses for studying the identical subject at the identical school can range from Rs 50,000 per year to as high as Rs 500,000 in other schools.
They stated that to eliminate such misconceptions and prevent fraud, individuals should be obligated to seek legal remedies. Currently, there are a total of 4,846 schools offering community education, 1,132 private schools, and 28 religious schools for classes 11 and 12. As per the Education and Human Resources Center, during the academic session of 2079, the enrollment rate for classes 9 to 12 stood at 75.4 percent, whereas the retention rate specifically for class 12 was 35.6 percent. As of the fiscal year 2079/80, until the month of Falgun, a total of 9,137 individuals have obtained permission letters for foreign studies.
As per the board's data, this year there are a total of 22,000 students, which is approximately 0.45%, in the GPA range of 0.80 to 1.20. Additionally, there are 38,777 students, approximately 7.99%, in the GPA range of 1.20 to 1.60. Unless these students improve their results through the grade enhancement test, they will not be eligible for admission into Class 11.
The board has issued a notification for the students appearing in the Secondary Education Examination (SEE), 2079, allowing them to apply for re-evaluation by Shrawan 5 if they are dissatisfied with their obtained grades. Students taking part in both regular and grade improvement examinations, for both general and specialized subjects, have the opportunity to apply for re-evaluation following the prescribed format and procedure.
