The 12th International Conference titled 'Sustainable Tourism & Development: Navigating Uncertainty' is being hosted by Kalika Multiple Campus, in collaboration with esteemed institutions such as AITM College, GATE- Global Academy of Tourism & Hospitality Education, LA College, MBS College of Crete, and Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM). As delegates make their way to Pokhara, and the city gears up to extend a warm welcome to professionals and guests from around the globe, it has also been announced that Mr. Dhana Raj Acharya, the respected Mayor of Pokhara, will be naugurating the conference.
The conference will be taking place from October 09, 2023 - October 11, 2023.
The conference will commence with a public gathering scheduled for October 09, featuring the launch of a book and a documentary screening. Authors SHERPA, Serku, and WENGEL, Yana will introduce their work titled "The Sherpas and Their Original Identity," offering a deep cultural and historical insight into the Sherpa community. The program will encompass readings from the book, a Q&A session, and the screening of the documentary titled "Last Nomads of Everest." This documentary chronicles the compelling story of the final Sherpa family practicing traditional Mountain cow husbandry in the harsh weather conditions of the Khumbu region.
Furthermore, this public event will be enhanced by the display of artworks by Hemkanti Gurung, representing IWS Hemkanti Art Gallery and Buddhi's Atelier. All exhibited artworks will be available for purchase, and the proceeds will directly support the talented artists.
The main aim of the conference is to provide a platform for academics, emerging researchers, policymakers, industry professionals, marketing specialists, and destination managers. The central focus will be on addressing the most current sustainability challenges and issues within the tourism industry, especially in the present context marked by uncertainties arising from climate change and the enduring effects of the COVID-19 pandemic.
The conference presents an impressive lineup of distinguished speakers, which includes Dr. Portia Sifolo, Prof. Claudio Milano, Assistant Prof. Yana Wengel, Prof. Dirk Reiser, and Prof. Ruhet Genc. Prof. Ramesh Raj Kunwar, widely recognized as the pioneer of tourism in Nepal, will moderate the panel discussion titled 'Transformative Tourism In The New Era.' Prof. Eugenia Wickens, from OTS Academy in Oxford, UK, who is also the author of this press release, serves as the Conference Chair.
