Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City is one of the 12 municipalities in Sunsari District of Koshi Province. As per the 2021 census, the sub-metropolitan city has a total population of 197,241, comprising 93,290 males (47.3%) and 103,951 females (52.7%), with a literacy rate of 85.3%. Spanning 93.78 square kilometers, Itahari Sub-Metropolitan City exhibits the population density of 2,103 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 20 wards.
According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Itahari has 164 schools. Of these, 125 are private and 36 are public. The breakdown includes 136 pre-schools, 149 basic schools, and 89 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 26 offer +2 programs.
