Phd Scholarship in Microbiology

Central Department of Microbiology, Tribhuvan University, Kirtipur, announces a fully-funded open PhD scholarship position in Microbiology with a focus on investigating Brucella transmission dynamics in Nepal under the supervision of Professor Dr. Prakash Ghimire.

This PhD position is under the UGC Collaborative Research and Innovation Grant (CRIG), which operates in the department under joint collaboration of the Central Department of Microbiology (TU), Kathmandu University, and the Norwegian Institute of Public Health, Norway. Eligibility Criteria for the PhD Student

  • Hold Master's Degree in Microbiology or equivalent from a recognized university.
  • Have a strong academic and analytical records.
  • At least one research publications in SCIMAGO ranked journals as the principal author or three publications as co-author.
  • Experience of handling infectious materials, knowledge and skills in serological, immunological and molecular biology techniques/tools/equipments/protocols
  • Knowledge of bioinformatics and skills in data analysis tools and techniques.
  • Highly motivated and committed to laboratory and field works.
  • The candidate should be able to work independently and in a structured manner and have the ability to co-work with co-scholars under limited supervision.
  • Proficiency in English speaking and writing.
  • The candidate should be able to secure PhD registration in the session 2024 at the Institute of Science and Technology (loST), Tribhuvan University.

Benefits:

The selected candidate will receive a monthly stipend of NRs. 35,000 for two years. In addition, all the field and laboratory costs, as well as national and international travel expenses related to the project, will be covered in accordance with the UGC-TU project regulations.

Note: Only shortlisted candidates will be called for an interview to present the research proposal. The selected candidate must be available to begin work in the first week of September 2024. The candidate will obtain the scholarship after registering for the PhD program at the Institute of Science and Technology, Tribhuvan University.
