Virtual Orientation on Proposal and Dissertation Writing Conducted by PN Campus

13 August 2020 - Management Research Department of Faculty of Management, Prithvi Narayan Campus organized a five-day virtual orientation program on “Proposal and Dissertation Writing” for the students of MBS (2018 Batch) from 9 to 13 August 2020 using the virtual platform. The inauguration session was chaired by Department Head, Dr. Hari Prasad Pathak, and inaugurated by Prof. Dr. Saroj Koirala, Campus Chief of Prithvi Narayan Campus, who was invited as the chief guest of the program. At the inaugural session of the program, chief guest, Prof. Koirala delivered the inaugural speech. On the occasion, Assistant Campus Chief, Dr. Bir Bahadur Karki welcomed the chief guest and other participants. Prof. Dr. Ashok Kumar Jha, Head of Research Department of Mahendra Multiple Campus, Dharan. The orientation was facilitated by senior faculties of the Faculty of Management. They were Prof. Keshar J. Baral, PhD., Hari P. Pathak, Ph.D., Bir B. Karki, Ph.D., Devilal Sharma, Jas Bahadur Gurung, Nabin B. Adhikari, Bhupal Jaisi, Hikmat K.C., Resham Raj Sharma, Bishnu Prasad Bhandari, Resam Lal Poudel, and Surya Bahadur G.C., Ph.D. from School of Business, Pokhara University All together 107 students participated in the orientation program.

The first session was started with the Experience Sharing of Prof. Baral. He also highlighted on the Objectives of the Course, and this session was followed by the sessions on Preliminary Review of Literature and Selection of Topic; Format and Components of Dissertation Proposal; Background of the Study, Research Problems and Research Questions; Objectives, Hypothesis, and Rationale of the Study; Review of Literature; Theoretical Framework; Research Methodology; Format and Components of Dissertation Report; Data Analysis and Presentation; Results, Discussion, Summary, Conclusion, and Implications; Coherence in Research; Citation and Reference (APA 6th Edition); Using Software for Citation and References; Do’s and Don’ts of Research; and Information Dissemination, Deadline to Submit and Defend Proposal and Dissertation.

The orientation program was closed amidst a virtual closing ceremony organized on 13 August 2020. Prof. Dr. Saroj Koirala, campus chief of Prithvi Narayan Campus was the chief guest of the closing ceremony. He gave an inspiring speech and promised to provide supports to any departments of campus for organizing programs in which students will be benefited. Assistant Campus Chiefs from different faculties and institutions of Prithvi Narayan Campus- Associate Prof. Hom Nath Poudel, Associate Professor Upendra Poudel, Lecturer Min Raj Lamsal, Lecturer Chandra Mani Acharya, were also present on the closing ceremony as special guests. Ms. Krishna Thapa, Mr. Milan Sapkota, and Ms. Pushpanjali Thapa speaking on behalf of the students, shared their experiences of a five-day orientation program and expressed satisfaction.

Participants evaluated the five-day virtual orientation program through a questionnaire generated by using the facility of Google. Around 70 percent were found satisfied, 15 percent highly satisfied, 10 percent neutral, three percent dissatisfied and two percent were highly dissatisfied.

On the occasion, a Digital Letter of Appreciation was provided to the chief guest. Participants were provided with a digital certificate of participation online. Speaking on behalf of Faculty of Management as well as resource persons, Assistant Campus Chief Dr. Bir Bahadur Karki expressed satisfaction and thanked Management Research Department for organizing the virtual orientation on Proposal and Dissertation Writing for the students. At the end of the closing ceremony, HOD of Management Research Department Dr. Pathak extended the vote of thanks to the chief guest and other persons present on the occasion. Faculty member, Resam Lal Poudel provided all the technical supports throughout the orientation period. Jas Bahadur Gurung and Resam Lal Poudel were the masters of ceremony for the opening and closing ceremony respectively.
