Tribhuvan University, Central Department of English has approved the expansion of eligibility criteria for MA in English (MA English). Breaking away from the prior criteria that restricted postgraduate English studies to those who had pursued optional English during their undergraduate studies, the University has adopted a more inclusive approach.
The English Subject Standing Committee, along with the Faculty Council Standing Committee and the Academic Council Standing Committee, collaboratively approved the new enrollment criteria for Masters in English.
According to the new system, individuals who have completed their bachelor's degree in any subject from Tribhuvan University or any recognized university, with a minimum of 100 marks or equivalent, are now eligible for postgraduate studies in English. Moreover, graduates from any university in a country where English is the mother tongue, with equivalent graduation level recognition from a tertiary institution, are also welcome to pursue postgraduate studies in English.
"We believe in fostering a diverse learning environment. This decision reflects our commitment to opening up opportunities for students from various academic backgrounds to delve into the rich realm of English studies at the postgraduate level", the head of the English department, Prof. Dr. Jeevlal Sapkota, informed.
This significant development follows closely on the heels of a similar decision made for Nepali studies. The recent expansion of eligibility criteria for MA in Nepali (MA Nepali) marked a departure from previous enrollment criteria.
Tribhuvan University's recent decisions regarding postgraduate studies in both English and Nepali underscore a commitment to inclusivity, diversity, and enriching linguistic and literary traditions. These changes reflect a progressive vision for higher education that transcends disciplinary boundaries, inviting students from various backgrounds to contribute to the academic tapestry of the University.
