Lumbini Banijya Campus, renowned as a model community campus in Nepal, has completed a comprehensive assessment visit by the University Grants Commission.
Established in 2038 and affiliated with Tribhuvan University, the campus is gearing up to open the final door for the third phase of Quality Assurance Assessment (QAA) provided by the University Grants Commission, Nepal.
A team of international experts visited the campus to conduct the final evaluation for the third phase of QAA and interacted with stakeholders on 120 indicators from Poush 22 to 26.
The team, led by Prof. Dr. Govinda Prasad Acharya and including international expert Prof. Dr. Abhinash Chandra Pandey, Prof. Dr. Regina Maske, Prof. Dr. Nandita Sharma, and Assistant Director Narayan Bhandari, held separate discussions and interactions with students, staff, faculty, parents, campus management committee, student unions, alumni, directors and in-charges of various programs, coordinators of various groups, departmental heads, employers, and local social workers. The team also inspected various academic and administrative departments, classrooms, canteens, digital libraries, and other facilities.
Presenting the report after a five-day observation, team coordinator Prof. Dr. Govinda Prasad Acharya stated that the team would submit a report to the Quality Assurance and Accreditation Council for the third phase of QAA. He also urged the campus to continuously strive for quality improvement as quality has no end-point. He mentioned that the team had provided some suggestions to the campus through the report.
Speaking at the closing ceremony, international expert Prof. Dr. Abhinash Chandra Pandey praised the campus's excellent physical and academic quality and expressed gratitude for the warm hospitality provided by the campus. He also extended his best wishes to the campus for obtaining the third phase of QAA. Similarly, Prof. Dr. Nandita Sharma expressed that her long-held desire to visit Lumbini Banijya Campus had been fulfilled and that the campus was even better than expected. Assistant Director of the University Grants Commission, Narayan Bhandari, expressed his gratitude for the campus's cooperation with the visiting team during the visit.
The visiting team prepared a 28-page report, which will be submitted to the University Grants Commission, Nepal. Campus Chief Prof. Dr. Tara Prasad Upadhyaya said the decision regarding the third phase of QAA will be made after the report is submitted. He mentioned that if the certificate is obtained on time, Lumbini Banijya Campus will become the first educational institution to receive the third phase of QAA.
Speaking at the closing ceremony chaired by Associate Professor Punaram Ghimire, the coordinator of the SAT, the chairman of the campus management committee, Surendra Prasad Shrestha, expressed his gratitude to the team for the final evaluation and expressed confidence that their assessment and suggestions would be helpful as the campus's goal is to transform into a university.
The campus received the QAA certificate from the University Grants Commission for the first time in 2068 and again in 2075. It was also awarded by the Nepal government as the best community campus in 2075 and 2080 and was honored with the Lumbini Province, Provincial Pragya Padak Dvitiya in 2076. The campus, which excels in quality education, has consistently ranked first, second, and third in the university and has been working to lay the foundation for the university by operating five autonomous programs under the academic autonomy of Tribhuvan University. Currently, around 4,000 students, 48 faculty members, and 27 staff members are at the campus.
