The first convocation ceremony of Gandaki University was held today, marking a significant milestone in the university’s academic journey with the graduation of students from multiple disciplines.
Addressing the ceremony, Chief Minister of Gandaki Province Surendra Raj Pandey stressed the need for an education system integrated with research, technology, and production. He said that only such a system can meaningfully contribute to national economic development and highlighted the importance of linking education with industries and employment opportunities. He also expressed concern over the rising trend of students going abroad after completing higher education.
Educationist Prof. Dr. Kedar Bhakta Mathema called for reforms in the education system in line with global changes, emphasizing the inclusion of market-oriented, research-based, and AI-related subjects in the curriculum. He also highlighted the importance of developing students’ analytical thinking and problem-solving abilities rather than focusing only on information delivery.
University Chancellor Indra Prasad Tiwari said the university aims to establish itself as a research-oriented, technology-friendly, and internationally recognized academic institution. He added that efforts are underway to expand research centers, strengthen collaboration with government agencies, and promote community-based research.
Similarly, Chairman of the University Board of Trustees Prof.Kailash Nath Pyakuryal stated that the university should now prioritize quality education and institutional strengthening beyond physical infrastructure development.
During the ceremony, Gaurav Bhandari, who secured the highest CGPA at the undergraduate level, was awarded the Chancellor’s Medal. Bhandari, along with Malin Kumar Roka and Katerina Basnet, also received the Vice-Chancellor’s Medal.
A total of 44 students graduated in the convocation, including 11 in Sports Management, 18 in Information Technology, and 15 in Pharmaceutical Sciences.
