The Government of Nepal has amended the Policy Research Institute (PRI) formation order to strengthen collaboration between the National Planning Commission (NPC) and Tribhuvan University (TU). The amendment, published in Part 3 of the Nepal Gazette under the “Policy Research Institute Development Committee (Formation) Order (Second Amendment), 2083 BS,” has revised the structure of the institute’s governing board.
The changes aim to improve coordination between policy research institutions and academic bodies for evidence-based policymaking.

- NPC Vice Chairperson will serve as the ex-officio Chairperson of the Policy Research Institute Board.
- Tribhuvan University Vice Chancellor will be included as a board member.
- The board will also include two members nominated by the Government of Nepal.

- The first meeting under the revised structure was chaired by Dr. Gunakar Bhatta, Vice Chairperson of NPC.
The Policy Research Institute is a national think tank established by the Government of Nepal in 2018 (2075 BS) to conduct research and provide policy recommendations.
The institute works on areas including national strategy, foreign policy, diplomacy, governance, and public administration reforms. It coordinates with the Government of Nepal through the Office of the Prime Minister and the Council of Ministers. The new structure is expected to strengthen research-based policymaking through closer cooperation between government and academic institutions.
