Five Nepalese Students Selected for International Economics Competition

The number of Nepalese students taking part in International Economics Olympiad has been decided with the conclusion of the national competition organized by Nepal Economics Olympiad (NEO), held in Lalitpur on Sunday. The 5 gold medal winning students are Bhargav Chataut and Victor Hamal from Budhanilkantha School, Prayush Yadav from Little Angels College, Mayank Shankar Jha from Trinity College and Anubhav Dhungana from St. Xavier's College.

Former Minister Dr. Menendra Rijal said now is the time of Artificial Intelligence (AI) and due to ChatGPT, trends may change from study to research to teaching.

Registrar of Kathmandu Universty, Dr. Achyut Wagle, said that just as medical science discovers new medicines, economists should also find ways to solve the problems of the economy. He also pointed out that the country will never develop if talented people with potential stay outside. He urged talented students to come back to Nepal regardless of where they want to study. 

Manoj Gyawali, CEO of Nabil Bank held the opinion that people with stories of failure should attend such events rather then successful people. "If you don't want to hear the story of someone's failure, you won't know how he got stuck in the swamp", he said, "You should also listen to the story of failure to know where and how many challenges there are."

The Chairman of the Stock Broker Association of Nepal (SBAN), Dharmaraj Sapkota, also requested to speak at the international forum about Nepal's economy, stock market and financial literacy. 

More than 1,000 students from 162 colleges across the country participated in the regional competition, and the best 75 students were selected for the National Olympiad. 80 students participated in the national competition, including 5 who were directly selected. The participants took a 3-hour written test that contained questions related to business case analysis, simulation and economics.. From there, the best 5 were selected for the international competition. 

Director of NEO's partnership, Deepak Bhandari, said that this year the organizer is aiming to win the gold medal as they have achieved the last 3 positiions in previous international competitions. In the program, students who placed third in the International Olympiad and first in the International Business Olympiad were also honored.
