The final arrangements are being made by the National Examination Board to release the results of the Secondary Education Examination (SEE) held during the academic session 2079. Dr. Mahashram Sharma, the board's chairman, stated that the testing, verification, and cross-checking of answer sheets have been completed, and the process of entering the results into the computer is currently in progress.
"The results would be published by the third week of Asadh, following the designated work schedule. Although the answer sheets have been evaluated, there are still some pending technical tasks to be completed," he explained. He emphasized the need for caution to avoid numerous errors during result publication. He further stated that unless there are intricate technical challenges, the results will be made public before Asadh 21. Exam Controller Vishnunarayan Shrestha also confirmed his commitment to release the Grade 10 exam results within the third week of Asadh.
SEE commenced on Chaitra 17 of the preceding year. A total of 385,396 students from 12,883 schools, including both community and private institutions nationwide, participated in the examination. Among the participants, there were 242,712 female students and 242,774 male students. Furthermore, 15,461 students from schools providing education from grade 9 onwards also took part in the SEE. The examination control office conducted the evaluation of answer sheets at the district headquarters.
Confusion Regarding Result Methodology
The decision regarding the publication of SEE results is still pending, whether to follow the letter grading guidelines of 2072 or the updated guidelines of 2078. Sanjay Khadka, the president of Pabson Bhaktapur, an umbrella organization of private schools, expressed the prevailing confusion about whether to release the results based on the previous letter grading guidelines or the recently implemented 2078 system.
"Since the final batch of students from the old curriculum took the SEE, our request is to publish the results according to the old guidelines (2072)," stated President Khadka. He expressed concern that publishing the results based on the new 2078 guidelines would have a negative impact on the future prospects of students who studied the previous curriculum. He emphasized that upcoming exams will be based on the new curriculum, which may disadvantage students who have studied the old curriculum.
In the year 2072, there was a grading system in place where students needed to achieve a combined score of 35% in theoretical and practical subjects to pass. According to the 2072 method, the results were published using a grading scale as follows: students scoring between 90 and 100 received an 'A+' grade, those scoring between 80 and 90 received an 'A' grade, scores between 70 and 80 earned a 'B+' grade, scores between 60 and 70 were awarded a 'B' grade, scores between 50 and 60 received a 'C+' grade, scores between 40 and 50 were assigned a 'C' grade, scores between 30 and 40 earned a 'D+' grade, scores between 20 and 30 received a 'D' grade, and scores below 20 were given an 'E' grade.
According to the new guidelines of 2078, students are required to score a minimum of 35% marks in the theoretical subjects. As per the new method, if a student scores below 35% in any subject, they will be placed in the category of 'Non Graded'.
In case a student receives 'Non Graded' in up to two subjects, they have the option to take an immediate grade improvement exam. However, if a student receives 'Non Graded' in more than two subjects, they will have to wait until the following year to appear for the exam of those subjects. Previously, it was mandatory to take the exam for all subjects, regardless of the 'Non Graded' status in two or more subjects.
Board Meeting Today
Today, the National Examination Board will convene a meeting to determine the approach for processing the SEE results. Dr. Sharma, the board's chairman, stated, "There is no need for confusion regarding the methodology for announcing the SEE results. The board meeting today will make a decision on this matter, and it is likely that a decision will be reached during the meeting."
