Since Management courses are cross-disciplinary application, students from diverse field are attracted towards management education.

Previously, TU offered Intermediate in Commerce (I.Com) and Bachelor in Commerce (B.Com) and Masters in Commerce (M.Com) but later undergraduate and master levels were replaced by Bachelor in Business Studies (BBS)  and Master in Business Studies (MBS) . Since BBS runs in the annual system, Kathmandu College of Management (KCM)  introduced Bachelor in Business Administration (BBA)  in 1997 for the first time in Nepal under the affiliation of Kathmandu University. BBA is a four-year programme and runs in a semester system (Update: Now the college do not run KU program, but runs similar program with affiliation from SIAM University ). Following KCM, Purbanchal University and Pokhara University also introduced BBA as their first programme.

In 1993, Kathmandu University School of Management (KUSOM)  offered two-year Masters in Business Administration (MBA) . It also introduced EMBA  programme in 2001, which allows young corporate employees to continue their jobs while pursuing the course.

KUSOM charges Rs 230,000 for MBA programme and Rs 260,000 for EMBA. Number of MBA graduates per year is 60 to 65 whereas that of EMBA is 25. “Our graduates need not wander for job; most of them are hired before they complete the programme through company presentation,” says Professor Subas KC, dean of KUSOM.

The fresh graduates of MBA are offered the starting salary of Rs 15,000 to Rs 20,000 for the post of trainee manager. Most of the graduates are involved in banking sector, while the other preferences are airlines, hotels, hospitals and industries.

Today, there are number of colleges which offer undergraduate and postgraduate management courses. The fee structure and the facilities provided by colleges vary. “The curriculum of BBS and BBA are almost the same, and the only difference is in the teaching process. And this is the main reason for charging maximum price for BBA,” says Bishnu Raj Adhikari, founder of KCM adding that the programme contains the latest and the best in management knowledge and practice to keep students updated with the evolving nature and challenges of management profession. KCM charges the highest fee for BBA programme. The starting salary of BBA graduates is between Rs 10,000 to Rs 12,000.

“Management expertise gained at KCM has helped broaden my knowledge and produce outstanding results for the organisation that I work for,” asserts Rabi Rayamajhi, a graduate of KCM, who is currently working as a junior officer in Standard Chartered Bank.

National Open College (NOC) , affiliated to Pokhara University also offers BBA course . Its tuition fee is lesser as compared to KCM. KCM tuition fee is around Rs 600,000 whereas NOC offers the same course for around Rs 450,000.
