Offering Colleges (1)
Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence program of Kathmandu University with the support of proper practical training aims to offer undergraduate students a complete knowledge of Artificial Intelligence. This program also supports students through project-based learning and an internship program that gives them real-world experience.
Kathmandu University will run this program in its School of Engineering under the Department of Computer Science and Engineering.
After the completion of this program, graduates will be able to analyze various data as well as build automated machine technology. Graduates of this program will be able to use AI technology and methods to implement data-driven decisions in companies and organizations.
The program begins with introductory courses in Programming Computer Science, Mathematics and Statistics to build a firm technical foundation. Later, the students will leam core Al concepts and techniques including state-space search, gameplaying, Machine Learning, Neural networks, Computer vision, Language Understanding, and more complex subjects.
BTech in Al graduates can apply AI techniques and methods in companies and institutions with large amounts of data to implement data-driven decision-making. They can therefore operate in the various data analysis phases and build automatic and efficient machine learning systems.
The objectives of Bachelor of Technology in Artificial Intelligence (AI) program is to make students capable who can use the role of AI in poverty reduction, quality education, develop the standard of living which directly influences the economic growth of Nepal and reduce/forecast manmade as well as natural disasters. AI is highly significant to achieve sustainable development of intelligent buildings in Nepal.
Hence, this program is different in its inception from Science and/or Engineering and thus is a blend of the two. This program is not registered under the Nepal Engineering Council thereby allowing flexibility in the offering of specialization-related courses as practiced in reputed universities worldwide.
The objectives of this program are listed below.
- To provide fundamental knowledge of mathematical, programming, and modeling algorithms to undergraduate students.
- To develop sound theoretical knowledge in the AI domain besides mastering statistical and computer skills.
- To emphasize the ability to implement Artificial Intelligence algorithms, making them operational within the company and efficiently analyzing even large amounts of data.
- To implement active learning on various topics through practical exercises and laboratories, as well as project works. (Interactions between courses carried out both in series and in parallel are also promoted by the transversal case study analysis).
- To empower students with quality and value-based education promoting professional leadership and entrepreneur skills.
- To network with various research organizations, universities and industries for possible collaboration
- To advance AI knowledge that will significantly contribute to the sustainable development of communities and the industries in the region.
Salient Features
This program will help to fulfill the demand of graduates in Artificial Intelligence in the global and local market. This program will also assist the digital Nepal framework developed by the Government of Nepal.
Artificial Intelligence graduates will be able to:
- Operate in various data analysis phases, including data collection, choice of analysis method, implementation, and evaluation of results
- Selecting and implementing efficient and existing models based on machine learning and deep neural networks
- Evaluate and optimize the accuracy and scalability of the existing model
- Communicate the results to a non-specialist audience
- Build automatic and efficient systems for dealing with Big Data
- Fit into a multidisciplinary team
- Act in a professional and ethically responsible manner • Continuously update their knowledge
The total tuition fees for the program of four years is NRs. 8,00,000.
Eligibility
Applicants must have passed with the subjects PCM (Physics, Chemistry and Mathematics) or PMCs (Physica, Mathematics and Computer Science) in both XI and XII.
Fees
The total fee for Nepali students enrolled in the B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (B.Tech AI) program for the academic year 2079/80 (2022 Batch) is NPR. 850,000.
The fee structure for international students seeking admission to the B.Tech in Artificial Intelligence (B.Tech AI) program at Kathmandu University (KU) is as follows:
- The fees for applicants from SAARC countries will be 1.5 times the amount specified for domestic students i.e., NPR.1,275,000
- On the other hand, international students from countries outside of SAARC will be required to pay double the fees stated for domestic students i.e., NPR. 1,700,000
Job Prospects
The career prospects for this program are huge and our graduates can find many job opportunities in various sectors of research organizations, IT industries, and the academia. With the advance of digitalization and the ever-increasing role played by data, the use of AI technologies has nowadays penetrated almost every industrial sector: from finance to biological technologies, from Industry 4.0 to the energy sector. The undergraduate program aims at developing qualified workforce capable of supporting companies and institutions for this challenge, particularly from the perspective of the quantitative analysis of data and hence by intensifying their competitiveness and innovation.
