Geomatics (Surveying) Engineering Technology provides training in the collection, analysis, storage, distribution and application of spatial or three-dimensional data used in land development. It is is a modern discipline, which integrates acquisition, modeling, analysis, and management of spatially referenced data, i.e. data identified according to their locations. Based on the scientific framework of geodesy, it uses terrestrial, marine, airborne, and satellite-based sensors to acquire spatial and other data.
Geomatic engineering is fast growing discipline (that focuses on spatial information, i.e. information that has a location). The speed of development in the field is same as of Information Technology. Geomatics Engineers apply engineering principles to spatial information and implement relational data structures involving measurement sciences, thus using Geomatics as Spatial Engineers. Geomatics engineers manage local, regional and global spatial data for infrastructure development.
School of engineering, Kathmandu University and Land Management Training Center (LMTC), Dhulikhel is jointly offering 4 year undergraduate program in Bachelor of Engineering (BE) in Geomatics Engineering.
This program is running under the memo
Eligibility to study B.E Geomatics Engineering in Kathmandu University
I.Sc, 10+2 or equivalent examinations with minimum of 50% marks in aggregate and 50% in PCM or Physics, Mathematics, Computer Science (PMCs). Applicants with GCSE A-Level must have minimum of 'C' grade in at least three related A-Level advanced courses.
Application for admission to the program is generally invited in the beginning of July.
Applicants must appear for the admission test conducted by the Kathmandu University, which is generally conducted in August, at Kathmandu University, Dhulikhel. Candidates who are selected from the entrance examination, i.e. eligible candidates are called to appear for a personal interview and admission is done based on the merit list.
The Department of Civil and Geomatics Engineering in collaboration with Land Management Training Center (LMTC), Ministry of Land Reform and Management (MoLRM), offers scholarship for the students pursuing admission in Geomatics Engineering. The scholarship covers 35% of the Total Fee for twenty candidates, four from each development region. It is awarded based on KUCAT ranking of GE candidates from each Development Region.
