Bachelors of Arts (BA), is a four years program offered by Nepal Open Univesity. It aims to impart theoretical and conceptual knowledge along with practical applications while upholding the fundamental principles of the humanities and social sciences. The program encompasses the greater scopes of social sciences and humanities that span disciplinary boundaries.

The program encourages students to observe, visualize, and analyze social phenomena in accordance with various theoretical conjunctures as it prepares them for higher education degrees. It also encourages students to explore the researchable problems and areas that are either heavily or lightly populated in the particular domain. Since the program is a prerequisite for entering a university, it introduces students to a new field of study that can lead to higher degrees.

Objectives

The program has the following general objectives

  •  To familiarize students to the existing social and human values, establishing a solid foundation for the study of society and human beings;
  • To introduce students with broad, comprehensive and multi-dimensional knowledge and world-views in the concerned field
  • To acquaint and enhance the basic disciplinary knowledge and skills to the students
  • To equipt students with analytical skills that will enable them to bring pose changes in the society, be it leading development projects or emancipating fellow beings from different kinds of bondages
  • To incorporate the contemporary issues in the particular discipline, and; vi. To prepare the learners for further study and further degrees.

Internal Evaluation = 40% (In semester Examination: presentation, quiz, wiki, discussion forum, assignment, etc)

External Evaluation = 60% (Semester End Examination)

Examination Pattern

Students will be selected based on the Merit List prepared after the Entrance Examination. Students will be chosen based on their oral performances and their earlier qualification. Examination Committee will take virtual interviews of the candidates. A separate checklist will be prepared based on the performance in the earlier degree, providing a certain number to the achieved degree (for instance: 5 marksthe  for first division in 10+2 or IA, 4 marks for the second division, and so on). Combining the interview marks and the qualification checklist, the eligible students’ list will be published on the Web of the University.

Eligibility

To be enrolled in the BA program, each prospective student should have passed secondary level education or intermediate level (I.A) or equivalent degree from TU orBoardboard/ Institution/ University, securing at least a D+ grade, recognized by NOU from any stream. Students are free to choose any subjects in BA irrespective of their plus two backgrounds.

Job Prospects

The social science and humanities graduates fit in several workstations. Practically research-oriented course certainly multiplies the chances of being employed in several sectors like educational institutions, research, colleges, universities, schools, NGO/ INGOs, civil service, private organizations, cultural organizations, and so on. They may even work as a freelancer. Some of them may be social activists, writers, editors, supervisors, consultants, and even journalists. We also produce political leaders, social engineers, and freedom fighters.
