ABOUT
In 1972, the Nepal Academy of Tourism and Hotel Management (NATHM) was established by the Government of Nepal, originally known as the Hotel Management and Tourism Training Centre (HMTTC), with the assistance of UNDP and ILO. The main goal was to generate a skilled workforce to cater to the developing tourism and hospitality sector in Nepal. NATHM introduced the first-ever Bachelor of Hotel Management (BHM) program in Nepal in 1999, and subsequently, the institution was renamed NATHM. In 2003, the academy launched the Bachelor of Travel and Tourism Management (BTTM) program, and in 2011, recognizing the demand for highly skilled professionals in the rapidly growing tourism and hospitality industry, it introduced the Master of Hospitality Management program.
NATHM is affiliated with Tribhuvan University for all of its academic programs. In addition to offering undergraduate and graduate programs, NATHM also provides numerous short-term training courses in tourism and hospitality, such as Tourist Guide, Trekking Guide, River Guide, Food Production, Food and Beverage Service, and Barista training.
NATHM not only provides in-house training but also conducts mobile outreach training courses on Homestay Management, Local Guide, Small Hotel and lodge Management, among others, throughout Nepal.
Due to the high demand for these courses, NATHM has decided to establish branches in all seven provinces of Nepal starting from 2020. Currently, three branches have already commenced their operations in Birtamod of province number one, Bardibas of province number two, and Nepalgunj of Lumbini Province. This expansion of NATHM is expected to widen its reach and enable a significant portion of the Nepalese population to benefit from the courses offered by the institution.
VISION
To be established as a preferred destination for tourism and hospitality education in the SAARC region.
MISSION
NATHM as the pioneer national institution dedicated to human resource development for tourism and hospitality sector in Nepal, will facilitate and produce quality human resources by improving and expanding educational, training and research opportunities. It will thus be a 'Center of Excellence' for national and international students.
