SLC examination was previously known by many names viz. Entrance examination, Matriculation, Matrix. Students previously had to go to India in order to attend the examination, out of which predominantly were from Kathmandu valley. With time, the figure changed and students from all over Nepal started attending the examination.
The Office of Controller of Examination (OCE) was founded in 1990 BS. No governmental body seems to have kept a complete record of the people who had cleared the examination before OCE was established. However, after the establishment of the office, the records were regularly kept, including the students who secured the highest marks.
