Technical and vocational education has become an essential component of Nepal’s development strategy, with a strong focus from all levels of government. Technical Schools are pivotal in producing a skilled workforce that meets the growing needs of various sectors. The Council for Technical Education and Vocational Training (CTEVT) and the Centre for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD) have played a crucial role in expanding technical education throughout Nepal.

CTEVT supports both pre-diploma (18-month) and diploma (three-year) programs through a wide network of affiliated schools and institutes. As of now, there are 413 pre-diploma and 492 diploma institutes, totaling 905 institutions spread throughout Nepal. These programs are designed to equip students with hands-on skills and prepare them for employment or further education.

At the secondary school level (Grades 9–12), many community schools have also started offering technical and vocational streams. CEHRD, in particular, has introduced technical streams in 537 schools nationwide. These programs span six key disciplines: plant science, animal science, computer engineering, electrical engineering, civil engineering, and music. Among the provinces, Koshi Province leads in the number of technical stream schools (20.9%), while Karnali Province has the lowest share at 6.9%.
