Tarakeshwar Municipality, located in the Kathmandu Valley, is bordered by Tokha Municipality to the east, Nargarjun Municipality to the west, Nuwakot District to the north, and Kathmandu Metropolitan City to the south. In 2014, it was formed by including villages such as Sangla, Kavresthali, and Jitpurphedi. It is divided into 11 wards.
Known for its mythological significance, the municipality is named after the Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple, a revered Shaktipeeth where Sati Devi's limbs are believed to have fallen. Rich in natural beauty and cultural heritage, Tarakeshwar is home to various temples, including the Sri Tarakeshwar Mahadev Temple, Old Guhyeshwari Temple, and the Bhubaneswari Temple, alongside vibrant local markets like Phedi Bazar and Futung Bazar.
