Barahathawa Municipality is one of the 20 municipalities in Sarlahi District of Madhesh Province. As per the 2021 census, the municipality has a total population of 81,120, comprising 40,915 males (50.4%) and 40,205 females (49.6%), with a literacy rate of 60.79%. Spanning 107.05 square kilometers, Barahathawa Municipality exhibits the population density of 758 people per square kilometer. Administratively, it is divided into 18 wards.

According to the latest publicly available report of the Center for Education and Human Resource Development (CEHRD), Barahathawa has 59 schools. Of these, 24 are private and 35 are public. The breakdown includes 41 pre-schools, 58 basic schools, and 21 secondary schools. Among the secondary schools, 8 offer +2 programs.
