WWF-US is pleased to announce the availability of Russell E. Train Fellowships for nationals of Nepal for 2012. The Fellowships will support master's degrees in the following areas:
- A natural science discipline relevant to sustainable natural resource management, ecosystem services or biodiversity conservation in Nepal.
- A social science discipline relevant to sustainable economic development or community-based resource management in Nepal.
- Your thesis or dissertation should be focused on endangered species protection and management, community based resource management, forest carbon, climate change adaptation (monitoring or vulnerability assessments), adaptation strategy and program development for key biodiversity targets, or environmental policy and law in Terai Arc Landscape, Sacred Himalayan Landscape or Chitwan Annapurna Linkage in Nepal.
Please read the following carefully to determine if you are eligible to apply for a Russell E. Train Fellowship.
ELIGIBILITY
- You must be a citizen of Nepal.
- You must have at least two year’s work experience in conservation.
- You must commit to working at least two years after the completion of your degree in your home country or region.
- You must be enrolled in, admitted to or have applied to a graduate degree program (master's only) at an institution of higher education by the application deadline and you must plan to begin your studies no later than one year after the application deadline. You may study in your home country or abroad.
- You must NOT have received a Russell E. Train Scholarship or Fellowship in the past. Those who have received EFN Professional Development Grants may apply for a Train Fellowship.
- You must NOT be a current WWF employee, a long-term consultant to WWF. Consultants on short-term contracts with WWF may be eligible. If you are working for WWF, it is strongly advised that you contact EFN in Washington, DC at efn@wwfus.org to make sure you are eligible before applying.

SELECTION
Train Fellows are selected through a competitive, merit-based process. An independent, interdisciplinary panel of experts is convened in each country to review applications and to identify the top candidates based on the following criteria:
- Professional qualifications as evidenced by previous and current conservation-related positions, references from colleagues in the field, publications, and other sources.
- Demonstrated leadership through involvement in community and volunteer activities, the workplace, local and national government, and other areas.
- Prior academic achievement as shown by grades, academic awards, references from teachers and professors, and so on.
- Motivation and commitment to contribute to conservation in a participating country and to share what is learned with others in their field and in their home communities.
