Nepā School of Social Sciences and Humanities is offering two research fellowships (2013-2014) in order to provide opportunities for Nepali social science scholars to conduct serious academic research, write books or articles in a conducive intellectual environment, with generous fellowships.

Though applications for the fellowships will be accepted for any research topic, preference will be given to topics on the following fields: Human Rights, Women's Rights/Gender, Justice, Political Transition, Conflict, Violence or Migration. Priority will be given to applicants who plan to conduct fieldwork or archival research but we will also accept applications that propose to revise book or article manuscripts or MA/MPhil/PhD dissertations.

Research proposals or concept notes that are not based on social science perspectives will be rejected.

  1. Senior Research Fellowship or Research Fellowship 1 (for 12 or 18 months)
  2. Junior Research Fellowship 1 (for 6 or 12 months)

Eligibility Criteria
Senior Research Fellowship – PhD in any social science discipline with substantial research or teaching experience

  1. Monthly stipend between Rs. 90,000 and Rs. 1,30,000, depending on qualifications and experience
  2. Miscellaneous expenses of between Rs. 30,000 (12 months fellowship) and Rs. 40,000 (18 months fellowship) for books, stationary, photocopying, printing, etc.
  3. If relevant, fieldwork expenses (travel, per diem, salaries of research assistants, etc.) of between Rs. 2, 87,000 (for 3 months fieldwork) and Rs. 5,74,000 (6 months fieldwork)

or 
Research Fellowship –PhD in any social science discipline
Junior Research Fellowship – Masters degree or 4 years Bachelors degree in any social science discipline

  1. Monthly stipend between Rs. 30,000 and Rs. 50,000, depending on qualifications and experience
  2. Miscellaneous expenses of Rs. 20,000 (6 months) or Rs. 30,000 (12 months) for books, stationary, photocopying, printing, etc.
  3. If relevant, fieldwork expenses (travel, per diem, etc.) of Rs.1,70,000 for 3 months of fieldwork

Please submit an application letter, CV, full research proposal or concept note (for those wishing to revise manuscripts/dissertations), and names and details of two referees by 4:30 pm, Wednesday, 2 October 2013 by email to info@nepaschool.edu.np or at Nepā School's office. Research Fellows are expected to join the fellowships by mid-October or latest by early November 2013.

Only shortlisted candidates will be called for interview.
