Public Health Research Fellowship 2025

Nepali Academics in America (NACA), in collaboration with the Consortium of Academic Institutions of Public Health Education in Nepal (CAIPHEN), invites applications for the Public Health Research Fellowship. This fellowship aims to build the capacity of public health faculty in scientific writing, focusing on original research publications and research grant writing to foster a robust research culture in Nepali academia. Fellows will benefit from close mentorship, hands-on writing assignments, and networking opportunities.

FELLOWSHIP DETAILS

  • Duration: 12 months focusing on publication, with the possibility of extension for an additional 12 months for research grant writing and submission.
  • Number of Positions: 4 fellows, for the year 2025.
  • Mentorship: Each fellow will be paired with two mentors, who are typically faculty members at academic institutions in the United States.
  • Resources: Manuscript writing resources will be provided by the program and/or the mentor(s).

FELLOW EXPECTATIONS

  • Dedicate a minimum of 10 hours per week for the fellowship.
  • Participate in an online orientation program and develop a detailed action plan.
  • Present work-in-progress online at least three times and participate in webinars during the fellowship.
  • Engage in monthly consultations with their mentors (online or in person).
  • Draft and submit a scientific research paper to an international peer-reviewed journal.
  • Optional: Prepare and submit a research grant proposal to the National Institutes of Health (NIH), USA, depending on progress during the first year.

ELIGIBILITY CRITERIA

  • Hold a minimum master’s degree in health sciences.
  • Be employed as a Lecturer or Assistant Professor at one of the nine academic institutes within CAIPHEN.

APPLICATION PROCESS

Interested candidates should submit the following documents:

  1. A curriculum vitae (CV).
  2. A cover letter detailing their interest in the fellowship and how their qualifications align with the program goals.
  3. A research statement (maximum 2 pages) outlining their research interests and a proposed project.
  4. A letter of support from their department chair, confirming institutional support for their time commitment to the fellowship.

FINANCIAL OBLIGATIONS

  • No fees will be required for participation.
  • Fellows will not receive any monetary remuneration during the program.

This fellowship offers a unique opportunity for junior faculty to contribute to advancing public health research in Nepal. Successful candidates will gain essential skills in scientific writing and grant development while driving meaningful change through research and collaboration.
