Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya

मदन पुरस्कार पुस्तकालय

The Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya (MPP) is the principal archive of books, periodicals, ephemera, including many other collections in the Nepali language. Since over five decades of establishment, it has been continuously engaged in collection and archiving of published materials in Nepali language.

The library presently has a one-of-a-kind collection of monographs, journals, and ephemera that cover many elements of Nepalese society, culture, history, and literature from various times. Rare items abound in the library's collection, making them particularly sensitive to circulation. It's distinct from other libraries in that it's one-of-a-kind. Newsletters, posters, brochures, banners, calendars, manuscripts, reports, manifestos, letters, drawings, pictures, negatives, video footage, speeches, press releases, images of wall paintings, invites, and audio recordings are among the items in the collection.

About Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya

Kamal Mani Dixit, a Kathmandu schoolboy, made the initial purchases for what would eventually become the Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya using pennies from his lunch money in the mid-1940s. As the personal collection developed, it drew donations in kind from a number of prominent Nepalese and Indian literary figures, politicians, and intellectuals. Rani Jagadamba Kumari Devi Rana gave the collection an endowment in 1956. The Organizations Registration Act of 1977 was used to legally register Madan Puraskar Pustakalaya in 1985.

Kanak Mani Dixit has been the library's Chair since 2017.
