The Office of the Prime Minister and Council of Ministers (OPMCM) has directed the Ministry of Education to produce details of the progress in taking action against the schools which hiked tuition fees illegally.

The Department of Education on May 5 had decided to take action against those schools which were found guilty of charging arbitrary fees.

The Department had formed a High Level Monitoring Committee to carry out an investigation over the alleged irregularities last month. Though the Department had decided to take actions against the guilty schools, the decision is not implemented till the date.

After receiving complaints about illegal fees collection by schools, the OPMCM held discussions with the stakeholders and authorities concerned today, and directed the Ministry to release the details of action taken so far.

Secretary at the Office, Shanta Raj Subedi directed the Ministry to furnish details of the progress achieved so far in this regard, said Suprabhat Bhandari, Chairman of Guardians' Association of Nepal.

A circular has been sent to the bodies concerned to initiate action against the guilty schools, said Lava Dev Awasthi, Director General of the Department.
