Edusanjal has inaugurated the "Person of the Month" award to honor individuals who make significant contributions in the educational field. Rajan Koirala, the chief business officer of Edusanjal and coordinator of the award program, said this award will be given to teachers, policymakers, or other personalities with notable works in the domain.

Edusanjal has named Heramba Raj Kandel, principal of Viswa Niketan Secondary School as the first person of the month in January 2021 for his exemplary leadership during the coronavirus pandemic. He has been leading the community school since 2072 BS.

Born and raised in Benighat-8, Dhading, Mr. Kandel started teaching in 2051 BS. His daily routine includes reaching Viswa Niketan Secondary School at 7 am and spending about 12 hours in quality management and faculty meetings. Apart from the community school, he is also involved in various educational institutions.

In Spite of all the challenges in a community school, Mr. Kandel immediately launched online education when lockdown started in Nepal. Under his leadership, the school successfully conducted two regular exams before Dashain vacation, enrolled over 80 percent of students in online classrooms, and educated those who were unable to attend online classes in school premises by maintaining safe social distance.

Chief Koirala handed over the certificate and insignia to Kandel at the principal’s office of Viswa Niketan Secondary School. "We have initiated this award with the aim of giving more encouragement to those involved in the education sector," said Bidur Acharya, Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Edusanjal.

The jury recommended Kandel for the honor based on his contribution in the last academic session. From next month, readers, academics, and others will be able to nominate individuals for the award. As per Koirala, the results will be published on Edusanjal’s website and social media.
