On the 2nd of Chaitra, 2080, the Nepal Teachers Association urged Education, Science, and Technology Minister Sumana Shrestha to implement the Federal Education Act swiftly. Representatives, including the president, general secretary, and members of various association components, met with the minister to press for its prompt implementation.
The Secretary-General, Lakshmi Kishor Subedi, stated that the association had urged the Education Minister to initiate efforts to enact the Education Act under agreements previously made with the government. Additionally, they informed that copies of various contracts reached at different times had been handed over to the Education Minister.
After about 20 minutes, Minister Shrestha bid farewell without engaging in a dialogue, having interacted previously with journalists in the education sector.
During the meeting, journalists raised issues such as whether teachers should be members of the Teachers' Union, the need to regulate colleges operating under foreign relations, and the suggestion to provide respectable remuneration to teachers implementing free and compulsory education, advocating for creating a unified teaching profession. The journalists were also sent off without engaging in a dialogue.
