Prime Minister Jhala Nath Khanal Friday said that the development of the nation could not be attained by the marathon race for the majority government. Inaugurating the multi-party conference for the reformation of education organised by the Ministry of Education (MOE), PM Khanal said that political parties must institutionalise the political changes on the basis of national consensus, unity and excellent learning through the past bitter experiences.
Emphasising that the majority government could not achieve development by indulging in the marathon for the majority government as the past had made it clear, he said that there was still a chance to forge consensus and seeking consensus even in the amidst the race for majority would be possible. "We do not have the capacity, qualification and enthusiasm to go ahead with it," he added.
In a different context, Prime Minister Khanal said that he appointed the Vice-Chancellors at seven universities according to their academic experiences and qualifications; however, padlocking universities demanding political pie was depressing.
Prime Minister Khanal claimed that due to the credibility and efficient performance of government mechanism, foreign donors were increasing economic and technical grants in educational sectors. Social Development Service will be introduced as a compulsory subject up to higher education with the motive of developing social and practical awareness of students. Minister for Education Ganga Lal Tuladhar claimed that the provision of reward and punishment may eliminate and reform the malpractices of educational sector.
Emphasising that the irregularities, malpractices and fallacies were being shown in the education sector, he said that the multi-party conference had been held for the reformation within the stipulated timeframe. The Ministry organised the all party conference with the aim to correct the irregularities and malpractices.
At the conference, education officials Maha Sharma Sharma, Janardan Nepal, Dr. Labdev Abasthi, Khag Raj Baral, Surya Prasad Gautam, Laxmi Ram Paudel and Diwakar Dungel presented working papers on seven various topics.
The conference suggested to authorities for improvement of education, where political parties, guardians, journalists, teachers, private schools owners, universities officials, and education experts were present.
