Nepal largest and oldest University, Tribhuvan University (TU), has denied to abide by directives from Education Minister Chitra Lekha Yadav to handover its property in Chitwan, Mahendranagar and Surkhet to new universities.

Though the government in 2009 decided to form three universities in the property owned by TU, the latter is yet to hand them over.

Properties that Tribhuvan University was supposed to Handover to new Universities:

  1. Siddhanath Science Campus and Siddhanath Multiple Campus to Far Western University
  2. Surkhet Education Campus, Birendra Multiple Campus and Public Science Campus to Mid Western University
  3. Rampur Agriculture College to Agriculture and Forestry university.

However, five years later the university has denied to comply by the directive. “TU is an autonomous institution, therefore no one can direct it,” said  Guna Nidhi Neupane, registrar at the university.

Minister Yadav, also a pro-chancellor of the university, had issued written directives to TU to immediately handover the property a month ago.
